The first thought I had immediately once I heard the word “Epic” was something related with magic, costumes, superstitions and myths. But what really is an “Epic” Poem has to do with the struggle of a fictional character who is the hero and who has his own life history engaged with a legend or myth.
You were not so wrong with your first thoughts about what an Epic Poem is. They are magic stories about heroes.
